Dan Thomas’s campaign for VP Finance will see him reaching out to as many students as possible. Dan told Label that he was looking forward to door-knocking and meeting students on nights out, as well as introducing the new Freshers to Loughborough, if he were to be elected. His campaign strategy will also involve handing things out to students, so make sure you keep an eye out. Having worked within a range of teams, HSF as President and on sports teams, and having had first-hand experience of Zak Evans’s work in the role, Dan’s campaign was well thought and tackled the role’s key areas.
1. Why are you running for this position?
Since being in Loughborough I think I’ve had quite a lot of experience in quite important roles. For example, I was hall chair of Royce and I moved on to HSF President. These roles gave me the key skills I believe to move up onto the Exec team. I have good experiences, working over Freshers Week, within the hall system and getting a lot of students involved with activities that we put on.
2. What makes you more suited than other candidates?
I think that my experiences along with my maths degree have set me a solid platform to move onto the Exec and this position in particular.
3. Tell us a bit about your campaign theme
I’m the monopoly man Dan Thomas. I like this theme since it links quite well with the role of finance. It’s an obvious costume, obviously the suit, the top-hat, red bow tie, walking stick. I have a lot of props, so chocolate coins to give out to people just to be more recognised. I’ve got fake money to be given out to people, door knocking etc. And I’m really looking forward to getting into it.
4. What would you say is the most important aspect of your manifesto?
My three manifesto points all revolve, or are put under the umbrella of a more interactive LSU. That’s through a wider range of activities, developing upon the current night life and developing the current loyalty points system. I believe that if I carry out all those three points with the students’ thoughts and ideas at the forefront of what I do, then it will be a successful year.
5. In one sentence, why people should vote for you?
I believe I have the right qualifications, a lot of experience, I’m very approachable and I’m very passionate about what I do and taking LSU forward in the next twelve months.
