Everyone succumbs to the Dominos-deal text at least once during their time at university. But it’s not cheap! Why not try this quick and cheaper –not to mention healthier – alternative, that can be made to your personal tastes? It is also a great lunchtime treat to keep you going through the dark days of deadlines and exams.
1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C. Take your small baguette and cut in half sideways. Tesco are famous for selling big, reduced baguette sticks towards the end of the evening. This also gives you the option to purchase gluten/wheat free, because Dominos do not do them, and Pizza Hut’s alternative is simply not great.
2. Place on the grill tray and bake for roughly 10 minutes until they harden. If you are a fan of the deep pan base, then these baguette bases will take your fancy.
3. For your sauce, you can either use tomato puree or passata. If you really want to save money, then just use tomato ketchup.
4. The best thing about this pizza is that you make it according to your individual tastes. Mushrooms, onions and tomatoes chopped, at a pound per bag from the market are delicious. Simply top with any grated cheese of your choosing. If you want to splash out a bit more, buy some luncheon ham to rip into pieces, olives, salami or chorizo. You can even go for mozzarella.
5. Top with a sprinkling of pepper then place under the grill until the cheese has melted.
6. You can cut into smaller pieces or eat whole. Use as much of the baguette as you want for pizza; it reduces any wasted leftovers or unsatisfactorily small selections that occur when ordering takeaways.
