·       Why did you choose to do a placement?

I knew the importance of work experience when it comes to applying for graduate jobs and thought I would benefit from it. A lot of schemes won’t accept an application if the student doesn’t have experience. I’d spoken to quite a few people that had done placements and they all recommended it.

·       How did you choose where to apply?

I searched on the internet, mainly looking at places that I’d heard had a good reputation, family and friends recommended a few places. I also used the Careers centre for updates of jobs.I heard about Logicalis through a family member and I had the opportunity to meet with the Head of Operations where I discussed my options to work at Logicalis.

·       How have you enjoyed working this year?

I’ve really enjoyed working, its definitely a lot different to studying but I preferred it. I was in a great team and have made lots of friends from my placement which was good.

·       What is a typical day like?

I’d come in between 8:30-9 and check my emails to see what needs doing for the day.  I’d normally start the day with chasing customers for feedback on quotations I’d provided – I had targets to reach by chasing customers for feedback so usually started with this!  I’d then work through the rests of my tasks and prioritise as needed, I’d normally have approximately 4 requests in my inbox when I arrived at work and throughout the day could receive anywhere from another 4-15 requests. All requests differ so one request could take me most of the day or could take 10 minutes.  Speak to customers and suppliers when needed regarding quotes and orders.  I’d normally speak to my account manager in the afternoon for an update as well as liaise with other teams throughout the day.

·       How has it/it not benefitted you?

I’m a lot more confident now as a result of my placement; I had a great experience which has helped me to determine what to do after University. It has also made me more determined to get a good result so that I can get a good job.

·       Would you recommend other students to do a placement year?

Yes I would strongly recommended it.

·       What are your plans after university?

I want to go into either management or marketing, I am currently applying for graduate schemes.
