Sachin "The Little Master" Tendulkar, probably the greatest batsman of his generation, has announced he is retiring from cricket. His great passion for cricket inspired many people to not only watch the sport, but to take it up as well. Tendulkar is a fantastic player and ambassador for Indian cricket. On October 10, he announced that he will retire after playing his 200th test match, against the West Indies, in November. Label Sport takes you through the dates that defined this remarkable career.
1988: He scores 100 not out in his first-class debut for Bombay at just 15 years and 232 days old.
1989: He makes both his test and ODI debuts for India against Pakistan at 16 years old.
1990: He scores his maiden test century against England at Old Trafford.
1992: At 19 years old, he becomes the first foreign player to represent Yorkshire.
1996: He is the leading run scorer at the World Cup played in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with a fantastic total of 523 runs.
1997: He is named Wisden Cricketer of the Year.
1998: He scores his first double-century for Mumbai against Australia in the Brabourne Stadium.
2003: He is named the Player of the Tournament at the 2003 Cricket World Cup after amassing a spectacular total of 673 runs.
2005: He overtakes Sunil Gavaskar's record for the highest number of test centuries, by claiming his 35th against Sri Lanka in Delhi.
2006: He overtakes Kapil Dev to take the record for the highest number of test appearances for India with 135.
2007: He surpasses Brian Lara's world record of runs scored in tests away from home with a phenomenal 5,751 runs.
2007: He becomes the first ever player to score over 15,000 ODI runs during a match against South Africa in Belfast.
2008: He becomes the highest run scorer in test cricket, passing Lara's previous best of 11,953, when he reaches 16 in the first innings of the second test against Australia.
2010: He scores the first double century in ODI history, hitting an unbeaten 200 against South Africa.
2010: He was named player of the Indian Premier League after finishing as the tournament's top run-scorer.
2010: He becomes the most capped player in test history, after making his 169th test appearance in the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, overtaking former Australian captain Steve Waugh.
2010: He becomes first batsman to hit 50 Test centuries.
2011: He becomes the first man to score 15,000 Test runs, during the test series against the West Indies.
2012: He scores his 100th international century in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh, the first player ever to do this.
2013: He announces he will retire from all forms of cricket after playing his 200th test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India shoe-horned the two-test series into the schedule for Tendulkar; and the game will be played in front of his adoring home fans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 14.
