Tom Allright follows in the footsteps of Rebecca Willison in winning the Sir David Wallace Trophy for major achievements contributing to the Loughborough Experience.
All nominees were invited to the award ceremony last week, waiting on the edge of their seats to see who were shortlisted for the twelve individual Loughborough Experience Awards; just one set of some well-deserved awards presented throughout the evening.
Hazlerigg-Rutland hall were crowned Hall of the Year 2012-13, after an incredible year for the 180-person hall, finishing in the top three of nearly all hall competitions this year. Further success for Rigg-Rut came in the form of the Health and Well-Being award, and Paul Leaney, who collected the Warden of the Year award.
There was more success for Loughborough’s halls of residence, as David Collett picked up the BEST award for their efforts in environmental sustainability.
But it was finally time to announce the LEA winners: An incredible set of individuals was revealed on the shortlist, many with ties to media or with hall chair experience. And it was former Cayley hall chair Tom Allright who collected the Sir David Wallace trophy for outstanding achievement in working towards improving the Loughborough Experience.
Speaking to Label after the ceremony, Allright said: “I was very honoured and humbled to receive the David Wallace trophy. The room was full of a group of very talented individuals and in all honesty there were a significant number of students who could have easily received the trophy. Nonetheless I was delighted to receive it and I would like to thank everyone who nominated me and everyone who has made my year incredible. My final year at Loughborough university has been truly amazing thanks to the opportunities provided to me by our Students’ Union.”
