She is the daughter of one of the most famous names in music and one of Britain’s most high-profile fashion designers; Stella McCartney was given an OBE for her services to fashion in the New Years Honours List.
Pulling out all the stops for her visit to Buckingham Palace, she looked fittingly picture perfect in an outfit from her own collection. A walking advertisement for her eponymous brand, she wore an elegant and demure navy blue skirt suit. Stella's standout jacket was clinched in at the waist with jutting shoulders, harping back to wartime 1940’s style, while her skirt sat a few inches below the knee. Her outfit resembled that of the elegant wardrobe of Wallis Simpson; Duchess of Windsor and wife of King Edward VIII.
She wore her hair pinned back in a low knot, and added a netted veil over her face, secured onto her head with a vintage jewelled platinum hairpiece by Cartier.
Stella McCartney founded her London-based fashion label in 2001, which was named in the Queen's New Year's Honours List. Adidas was also named, the company with whom she collaborated with to create a sportswear line. She was also Team GB’s creative director and designed their 2012 Olympic kit, a task which involved creating over 500 individual pieces, but which she said she would do "again and again and again.”
She joins fellow designers Dame Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, as well as Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon in being awarded the Order of the British Empire. About receiving the award she told the press “I feel really proud and really excited and honoured to be here.”
Also listed for Investitures this year are Tatty Devine co-founders Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine, fashion writer and broadcaster Caryn Franklin and Fenwick deputy chairman John James Fenwick.
