LSAC claimed two bronze medals in the men's and women's team event at the annual BUCS Cross-Country Championships last Saturday.
February 2nd saw 60 Loughborough Cross Country athletes descend on the fields of Boddington Park, Leeds, for the much anticipated annual BUCS Cross-Country championships.
In true cross-country style, the course gave its competitors tough hills and mud baths to contend with but could not disturb the fantastic atmosphere and support from athletes and spectators alike.
A smashing start for Loughborough saw the men’s A team take home the bronze; led home by Henry Pearce in twelfth place with the other five qualifiers coming in thick and fast and all four team scorers finishing in the top 20.
The LSAC success was then replicated in the women’s race after an emotional team speech by the girl’s Vice Captain Laura Hillyard, with Beth Potter (pictured) picking up a bronze in the individual competition as well as in the team competition with Amy Campell and Jo Hickman Dunne making up the scoring trio.
The men’s B race was last but definitely not least if even just their sheer numbers was anything to be accounted for. The race saw the men wade their way through the now churned-up course to bring the team home in a very respectable fourth place after St Mary’s tough competition, claiming all three team medals.
“The boys have been working hard all season and they can be very pleased with the bronze medal. It was great to see so many guys in the B race; there's great strength in numbers and that's shown in our Birmingham League performances this year,” said Jamie Knapp (Men’s Cross Country Captain).
Women’s Cross Country Team Captain Kirsty Addy told me “It was a tidy weekend with solid performances all round. Very proud of the team.”
