I know what you might say, “It’s too early for Christmas” and while that may be true, one thing that is undeniable is that there is something that is taking the country (and social media websites) by storm; the John Lewis Christmas advert.
The song from the advert (and my choice for song of the week) is a cover of the Christmas ballad ‘The Power of Love’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. This version is by a relatively unknown name in Gabrielle Aplin. However, this could be a big boost to Gabrielle as the power of adverts (no pun intended) can majorly boost an artist’s popularity, take Alex Clare for example.
This cover has a heart-warming feeling to it and is genuinely brilliant. In terms of great songs out at the moment, this definitely has the edge as it is accompanied by the feel-good advert that the store has put together, and while people may say that ‘Holidays Are Coming’ is the official song to hear that Christmas is coming, I think this song may take its place for this year.
