Lillian Hiscox, a computer science student at Loughborough University, has been awarded ‘Best Placement Student’ at the 2012 National Placement and Internship Awards.

The enterprise initiative behind the ceremony, RateMyPlacement, serves to acknowledge the exceptional achievements by students currently in internships and placement years.

Lillian was nominated for this award by her Graduate Recruitment Officer at Microsoft, where she has been working for the past year as an Account Technical Analyst. She is currently in her final year studying Information Technology Management for Business.

After proving both her ability and responsibility Hiscox was able to fully engage in large projects. Her jobs included finding sale opportunities of new revenue to help her reach the set sales quota, spotting client opportunities and building relationships with businesses to aid them reach their goals using Microsoft technology.

Of the job she said:

“It was a very challenging role and didn’t seem like a usual internship, I think from day one I was sort of pushed into opportunities and challenges. I loved it.”

“Coming back for my final year I can now apply what I learnt in a completely different way to before my placement. Now I know a lot more about how it actually happens in a working environment and can apply it my course.”

Students everywhere can learn from Hiscox success in terms of the benefits of getting involved in internship and placement opportunities as following her placement Hiscox has successfully gained a place on Microsoft’s graduate scheme. Hiscox will be working there following the completion of her degree
