Four Loughborough University graduates have become the youngest four-man crew to cross the Atlantic whilst raising over £250,000 for Spinal Research.
Adam Wolley, 23, Greg Symondson, 22, and twins Ross and Hugo Turner, 23, completed their 2,935-mile trip after six arduous weeks. Taking them from the Canary Islands to Barbados, they sealed third place in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
"Words can't really explain what it was like to be out there rowing day in day out, but it was absolutely incredible," Hugo told press on arrival. "My favourite moments came when we were night rowing, out in the middle of darkness under a full moon, watching beautiful green shooting stars over our heads. The animals we encountered were outstanding. We saw whales and enormous blue marlin and the fishing was absurd."
"When I first got onto dry land it was so weird – totally surreal. I felt really land sick and my legs were just going from under me. All I can liken it to is walking home drunk at 3am after a big night out."
With a combined age of 91, the team are the youngest four-man crew to row across the Atlantic, beating the former record holders by one year.
Hugo and Ross also picked up a world record, rowing into Barbados as the first twins to cross any ocean.
