Lord Seb Coe announced as new Chancellor

Today at Loughborough in London, the new Chancellor of Loughborough University was announced.

The new Chancellor, Lord Seb Coe, was previously the Pro Chancellor. Seb Coe graduated from Loughborough with a degree in Economics and Social History in 1979. Seb Coe won 2 gold medals in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic games in the 1500m.

On the appointment, he said “This is a university which has an extraordinary history. And it’s a university I’m very privileged and proud to be a small part of in helping write the next chapter.”

He will be officially installed in the summer graduation ceremony.

The new Chancellor will be the senior ambassador of almost 18,000 Loughborough students.

He will play an important role in the advancement of the University. Their role includes hosting the annual meetings of the University Court and granting Loughborough’s academic awards at ceremonies.

Seb Coe is the sixth Loughborough Chancellor.

The last Chancellor was Sir Nigel Rudd who stepped down from the role in 2015. Rudd was Chancellor for 5 years from 2010. He was given a Honorary Doctor of Technology from the University in 1998.
