Label Freshers Countdown Day 10 (2 Days To Go): Five Fun Facts About Loughborough Student’s Union

Loughborough Student’s Union has changed and adapted many times over the years to the current building you see today. The massive hub of activity run for the students by students is not only successful on a wider national scale, but it is also popular on a local scale contributing to the Loughborough community. The Union, which is in charge of representing each individual at the University, Loughborough College and Loughborough RNIB College is a brilliant place to gain valued experience, be employed, and have a great night out (with a nightclub capacity of 3600 it’s sure to be busy!) So, there’s the basics of what you need to know about your Student’s Union, but keep reading to find out Label’s top five fun and interesting facts. Did you know….

  1. The Union’s largest ever bar taking was on Returners FND of 2011. On this particular Friday night the Union made just shy of sixty thousand pounds!
  2. The John Cooper bar, otherwise known as JC’s has been a part of the Union for over 30 years. More interestingly, it is the only bar to have kept its name over its period of existence.
  3. VK’s are a popular choice among students, but surprisingly it is in fact Loughborough Student’s Union that sells the most of this specific drink out of all other Student’s Unions in the county.
  4. Although Room 1 is now the main room in the Union, and plays host to some of the most exciting nights that the Union has to offer, it actually used to be a lecture theatre. Have a look next time and see if you can visualise what it would have been like.
  5. Snakebite, Diesel or Sass – these are all names you may be familiar with when referring to the commonly sold drink of beer and cider. But here at Loughborough it goes by a different name. It’s called Nasty!
