Noted fashion-designer, Stella McCartney, unveiled Team GB’s new Adidas kit for the Olympics at a spectacular show held this morning at the Tower of London.

McCartney took her inspiration from the strong symbol of the Union Jack flag, incorporating several of its elements and colours into the kits with bold blue tones and strong geometric lines.

Speaking of her inspiration, the designer said, “For me it's one of the most beautiful flags in the world and it was important for me to stay true to that iconic design but also to modernise it and present it in a contemporary way.”

With sequins adorning leotards and the print being as symbolic as the flag itself, there is no doubt that Team GB will stand out amongst competitors, with a real patriotic feel.

“Ultimately, we wanted the athletes to feel like a team and be proud with the identity we created,” says Stella, all of which is reflected in the design.

However, turning our attention to overseas, Giorgio Armani rolled up his sleeves to design the kits for the Italian Olympics Team. Featuring very minimalistic designs, the kit is very fashion-forward, as it features in Armani’s new fashion campaign for EA7 Emporio Armani.

The adverts feature famous international athletes modelling the sportswear, some of which is being made available to the public. With the slogan ‘men and women first, athletes second’, we can’t help but feel that the Italian designer is living up to his cultural identity that is all about the fashion.

With such a focus on the revelation of these kits, it seems there won’t be just sports rivalry on the racing tracks this summer.
