Marni for H&M

With a steady stream of fashion collaborations over the past few years, it’s pretty hard not to get excited about H&M’s partnership with fashion label Marni.

Swedish high street store H&M are no strangers to a fashion collaboration. After the success of collections from Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Matthew Williamson, to name just a few, it is safe to say that their most recent partnership with Italian label Marni is going to be just as popular.

Famed for setting trends in print with cuts and silhouettes that are playful and elegant, Marni’s collection at H&M does not disappoint. With all-over prints and strong colours, the only way to wear these signature pieces is in layers that both match and clash, finished off with quirky accessories.

Both women’s and menswear showcase all the elements that the Marni mainline has become famous for. Highlights from the women’s collection include full pleated skirts, dresses, and cropped trousers and jacquard knits in fabrics ranging from the highest quality silk to cotton.

For the men, look out for slim and playful parkas, formal suits that can be worn with either long pants or Bermuda shorts, along with signature print shirts and striped sweaters in a luxurious cashmere.

Creative director and founder of Marni, Consuelo Castiglioni says "As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic and adding sporty utilitarian elements”

The key pieces of the trend are a printed maxi dress with pockets and a tie at the neckline, a blue Bauhaus inspired spotty jacket and skirt while accessories include Marni’s classic resin jewellery.

With over 70 pieces and available in 250 stores worldwide and online, there is likely to be something that catches your eye.

If however, the Marni collection is a little out of your student budget but you still want to emulate the chic style, there are tricks you can look out for. Keep cuts slim but look for bold and vivacious pieces in jewel-like tones of blue, green and orange.

For the guys, the colours are more muted, with black, camel and red popular throughout. Mix prints and accessories in a playful but chic way to create a timeless look.
