Final year Drama students at Loughborough University are undertaking an enormous challenge for their end of year piece – adapting Peter Greenaway’s feature film, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, to stage. The team began work on the piece by adapting the script to work for a theatrical setting and are now working hard on choreography, stylizing the dialogue and creating a production that will have the audience at the edge of their seats.
But be warned, this production is not for the faint hearted. The story includes violence, sex, adultery and above all else – FOOD! Albert Spica, a greedy restaurant owner and renowned crook, eats every day with his cronies at the same restaurant. Unbeknownst to him, his wife, Georgina Spica, begins relations with an academic in the toilets of the restaurant. When her antics are revealed, Albert loses his mind and embarks on a rampage to find, torture and kill her lover.
