BUCS Big Wednesday returns to Loughborough University for the second year in a row, as Loughborough seek to win the title for a 44th successive year.

Taking place on the 18th and 19th of March, this is set to be an unmissable event as the University is expecting to welcome over 2500 spectators and 2000 student athletes. With 116 teams participating in 58 fixtures across 16 different sports, today is set to be one for the books as the best of University Sport is set to be showcased.

Last year, several Loughborough teams were victorious across many sports including women’s and men’s Basketball, women’s Football, men’s Tennis and many more. A new record was set as Loughborough amassed a total of 9492 points, further widening the gap between rivals Nottingham, who came second with 8227 points.

Stakes seem to be much higher this year, as Nottingham (6291), who currently sit in first place ahead of Loughborough (6079), are bringing a record 31 teams tomorrow.

Both the women and men’s Hockey 1’s will take on Nottingham tomorrow in the Championship finals.  As well as Hockey, Loughborough will also compete against Nottingham in wheelchair basketball, football and badminton.  Be sure to get your tickets and show your support!

Loughborough has a renowned sporting reputation with its world class facilities, Olympic and Paralympic success and its elite athlete centre.  The 43 consecutive BUCS titles are a clear reflection of the unique talent and sporting spirit fostered by Loughborough University.  With 20 Loughborough teams competing across 10 different sports, the African Violets are prepared to uphold their reputation and defend the title for a 44th consecutive year.
