Bring the WKDs… I think Vardy is finally having his party!

What a season! Who would have thought 5000-1 Leicester would not only secure a Champions League position, but also win the league? Let’s be serious, not many of us had the confidence to believe the impossible was indeed possible; for most Leicester fans they must still be in dreamland. But this isn’t a dream … Leicester are Premier League Champions. Yes, Champions! Thanks to 2nd place Tottenham drawing 2-2 with Chelsea, The Foxes have secured first place on 77 points despite having two more games remaining.

Eight years ago this team were relegated to League One (2008/09 season) and were playing the likes of Tranmere Rovers, Yeovil Town, and Huddersfield. 2014 brought Leicester back into the Premier League where they finished 14th. No-one would’ve expected this season that a jump from 14th to LEAGUE TITLE HOLDERS could have happened.  Especially not Gary Lineker who apparently stated back in December 2015 that if Leicester were to win the league he would present Match of The Day in his underwear! I advise you, just in case Lineker sticks to his word that you should avoid MOTD at all costs!

22 wins, 11 draws and only 3 losses… who would’ve thought it? Leicester City, a team that last year lost 19 times, and won only 11 games are now the victors of the top flight in English Football. This team will be amongst the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG in next year’s Champions League.

Everyone, even your Nan must have heard of Vardy by now. Jamie Vardy is having a party and he deserves it! The £1 million signing from non-league Fleetwood Town has had a season of a life time. Vardy broke the record for most goals scored in consecutive games, beating the previous record set by ex- Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, when he scored in 11 consecutive games. With a current total of 27 goals, Vardy has been an incredible asset to Leicester and arguably the greatest signing of this decade.

Whether the key to Leicester’s success is the management of Claudio Ranieri, the players, or the fans, Leicester have done the unthinkable. This might be a once in a life time for Leicester fans or this could be the dawn of a new football era. Who knows? What we do know is here in Loughborough, Leicester is technically our local Premier League team so put down that revision, forget about that essay and join the Vardy party! If we as students can learn anything from Leicester’s success, it’s that never let anyone tell you that your dreams are impossible…5000-1 remember that!

Now, what’s the bet on Leicester winning the Champions League in 2017?
