On Monday 7th December, the Loughborough Students’ Badminton Club will be taking part in a World Record attempt before the National Badminton League (NBL) match between Loughborough and Derby.
The club will be aiming to break the record for the most participants in a continuous rally which is currently set at 123 by the Meath Badminton Association in Ireland. The record attempt will start at 18:00 in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall and the club would really appreciate as much support as possible.
The event is not only an attempt at the World Record but is also being used as a way to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. This means that participants are asked to raise at least £10 which will be donated to the charity. The participant that raises the most will receive a shirt signed by the NBL team. Donations can be made via the JustGiving page for which the web address can be found at the bottom of the page.
Furthermore, the NBL match that follows will be broadcast on Sky Sports so there is a possibility that the record attempt will be featured in the recording as part of the pre-match programme.
Club Chairman, Dave McGinnity described the attempt as a “great club effort for a great cause” and gave a special mention to Laura Graves for her “fantastic Badminton Fun Day last week”.
The event is a brilliant opportunity to get involved in one of the University’s most successful clubs and raise some money for a truly amazing charity. Any support is welcome and the subsequent fixture between Loughborough and Derby proves to be an exciting one with the home side taking on the current NBL champions after winning their opening match against Nottingham.
