Loughborough University have won the Times Higher Education Leadership and Planning award for Outstanding Strategic Planning team at this year’s Thelma awards. Loughborough saw off stiff competition from institutions such as Durham University and the University of Bath to take home the prize.

Loughborough were also nominated for Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team, an award which ultimately went to the Glasgow School of Art following its response to the tragic fire that tore through the school’s famous Macintosh Building in May 2014.

The Leadership and Planning awards ceremony, which took place at Grosvenor House Hotel, was attended by more than 1,000 people and was hosted by comedian, Jack Whitehall. It was also a big night for double winners Newcastle University, who not only took home the top award of outstanding leadership and management team for the second time in three years, but also the prize for Outstanding Procurement Team.

Loughborough’s win is especially great news following their recent rise back to the top of the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey, being placed 2nd just behind The University of Bath, following last year when Loughborough dropped just outside of the top 10, ranking at 11th. Let’s hope Loughborough maintains such high rankings and wins more prizes in the years to come!
