As we are coming to the end of another great year, how quickly it always seems to go, let us look back on the best of 2012. Here is Label Features’ top five for you:
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which occurred on June 2nd of this year, celebrated her 60-year reign on the throne (longer than many of us have been around for). The celebrations occurred over a bank holiday weekend where as a nation, people came together for numerous events and street parties to celebrate and show our British pride.
London Olympics and Paralympics
Earlier this year London was home to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics over the months of July, August and September. Team GB finished third overallin the Olympics with 29 gold medals, and 65 medals in total, what a result! This result along with spectacular opening and closing ceremonies certainly did make the 2012 Olympics such an exciting time to everybody living in and around London. Oh, and I definitely think that the Spice Girls need a mention in this. It was the perfect opportunity for the all-time loved girl band to make a comeback at this spectacular showcase of events, and thousands gathered to watch them along with many other talented acts.
The Man who Jumped from Space
For those of us who missed Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon in 1969, this October, Felix Baumgartner ascended a great height, to the edge of space, an estimated 39km to be precise, and jumped! The moment he landed he broke multiple records including the breaking of the sound barrier without vehicular power for his fall. That’s definitely some inspiration right there.
Barack Obama Re-elected!
Barack Obama is America’s first black president and he is obviously doing something right as on the November 7th the citizens of America once again voted for him to run their nation. This poses a great promise and a massive change to politics, and we have to wonder where the next step in politics might take us.
A Great Year in Films
Finally, I don’t think that we could end this without mentioning the impressive selection of films that have hit the big screen in 2012. Hunger Games, Men in Black III, The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, Skyfall, Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Brave, Taken 2 and Snow White and the Huntsman have all been massive successes and think that almost everybody would be able to say that they have loved at least one of these films over the year.
So, there we have it! These are our top five best moments of 2012, and now let us look forward to many more spectacular events to come in the New Year.
