The Sunday Reset, has become cemented into the weekly routines of many. It is a day compromised of cleaning, organisation, and recuperation, to prep for the week ahead. All the little tasks you may have been putting off all week, can all be done in a couple of hours. So why are people adding it to their weekly routines and what are the benefits?
‘Sunday Resets’, like many aesthetic trends, originated from Tik-Tok. If you search #sundayreset, you’ll find a myriad of aesthetic, calming videos to give you inspiration, or a visual idea of what it is. Also, many YouTube videos are dedicated to Sunday Resets.
Sunday Resets have bloomed due to the increasing interest in looking after one’s mental health. It resets not only your room, kitchen, or home, but it also your mind and thinking, which clears the mayhem from the week before, ready for a fresh week with new possibilities. In Good Housekeeping magazine, Georgia Strummer concludes that ‘it is due to our busy lives for the need of a Sunday Reset’ (especially when it comes to the university lifestyle). This way, we can have a form of control, you can be your own boss for the day, make your own to-do list, relax and do it for yourself.
Benefits of a Sunday Reset
Sunday Resets are highly recommend to be a part of your routine! The benefits I see in myself, surrounding how it changes my mindset, knowing my space around me is clean and ready for the week, relaxes my mind for the tasks to accomplish in the week ahead. Putting on my favourite music and lighting candles to finish it off, is calming and therapeutic. Side note… It doesn’t have to look ‘aesthetic’ like the videos you may see online, remember you are your own boss.
The other advantages of the Sunday Reset:
Verywellmind states how a Sunday Reset routine ‘boosts your emotional regulation, enhancing your wellbeing and emotional balance’. There are physical pros too, your central nervous system is benefitted, through taking time to slow down. It’s a form of self-care, in the emotionally demanding time of university, it’s some time for yourself.
The busy university lifestyle can be demotivating. Sunday Resets boots productivity, ending the week in a clear, organised and refreshing way, in order to start the week in an effective, calm and collected way.
It practices the act of self-reflection which is vital for self-improvement, a strength needed at university – clear space equals clear mind.
