The 28th of February saw the hosting of the start of a charity incentive, Loughborough’s very own Students Charity Fashion Show (LSCFS). If you’re not entirely sure what it is, the LSCFS is a student-led fashion focused event, raising money for charity – it was hosted by Wider Events, who have previously run events like Fight Night. Focusing on two amazing charities, Ovarian Cancer Action and Falcon Support Services, the LSCFS started a givestar to showcase their fundraising, even creating a leaderboard of their team. Raising over £7,000 for their chosen charities, they received tremendous amounts of support. Kate Lewis was the highlight of the team fundraiser board, raising over £500 singlehandedly.
LCSFS was not only important to the chosen charities, but to the students involved. LCSFS placed great emphasis on their student-led team, from designers to models. The Fashion Show included pieces made by student designers at Loughborough, giving designers the opportunity to showcase their work outside of their degree. Pieces were custom made for the Fashion Show, modelled by students who volunteered to walk the runway to support the cause.
To understand more about the work out into LSCFS, I interviewed the Creative Chair, Yasmin, to ask her about the background of the project that she had worked so hard towards.
What was your inspiration to start the Loughborough Students Charity Fashion Show?
It all started with the idea of bringing something fresh and creative to Loughborough, the project conception was brought to me by our chair Nisha in its very early stages, when all we had to go on was the word ‘genesis’. We have such a talented student community, and I felt like there wasn’t really a platform for people to showcase their fashion skills in a big, exciting way. At the same time, I wanted it to be about more than just the clothes—it had to have purpose. A charity fashion show just made sense. It’s this perfect mix of creativity, collaboration, and giving back. Seeing it all come together has been surreal!
Why did you choose Ovarian Cancer Support and Falcon Support Services as your charities of choice?
Both charities really resonated with us on a personal level. Ovarian Cancer Action does such vital work in raising awareness and funding research for a disease that often goes unnoticed until it’s too late, cancer unfortunately touches the lives of many so it was personal. And Falcon Support Services is an incredible local organisation supporting those facing homelessness. It felt important to support a mix of both national and community-level impact. Plus, it was amazing to see how many people connected with these causes, seeing the Falcon support singers on stage supporting our show —it made the whole event feel even more meaningful.
What was the thought process behind the theme of Genesis?
We wanted the show to feel like a journey—not just visually, but conceptually. “Genesis” represents a beginning, which tied in perfectly with this being our first show. It was about growth, transformation, and evolution, not only in fashion but in the event itself. The walks moved from delicate and ethereal to bold and structured, mirroring the idea of something new taking shape. It also left plenty of room for creativity, and hopefully brought the energy the audience were looking for.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome when planning the Fashion Show?
Probably the sheer scale of it all. Coordinating designers, models, photoshoots, the executive team, the venue, lighting, music. It was like juggling a hundred things at once. And things always go wrong last minute; we had one entire set of clothes not show up until the day after which was very stressful, but the choreographer Maddie and I figured it out, she was fantastic. Honestly, the team was amazing. We had such a strong support system, and everyone was so passionate about making it work. Seeing everything come together on the night made every bit of stress worth it.
What was the highlight of the Fashion Show for you, as the Creative Chair?
It has to be that moment when the first model stepped onto the runway. The lights hit, the music kicked in, and suddenly, everything we’d been working towards was real. It was just this incredible feeling of, “Wow, we actually pulled this off.” When everything backstage started running like clockwork I felt really proud of the team, the space was so well cared for by the models and the executives were so proactive. Also, seeing the reactions from the audience—the excitement, the dancing at the very end—it proved that we’d created something special.
Are you planning any future Fashion Shows?
Absolutely! This was just the beginning. The response has been amazing, and so many people want to get involved next year. Now that we’ve set the foundation, there’s so much potential to make it even bigger and better. The goal is to keep growing the community, pushing creativity, and, of course, raising even more for charity.
Loughborough Students Charity Fashion Show was a great experience – from the designers to the fundraisers, it is an amazing project to start up and experience. I applaud all those involved! If you’d like to keep up with possible future events, feel free to follow them on Instagram; @thelscfs.
