NPRâs âTiny Desk Concertâ series has gathered widespread popularity online over the last 15 years, showcasing a variety of talented musicians from huge stars to the most obscure artists. What makes the Tiny Desk aesthetic so successful is the intimate setting where the artist’s stripped back vocals can take centre stage. Spanning genres, styles and eras, this series has introduced so many wonderful musicians to the world.

Chappell Roan â 2024
A brilliant artist who very recently rose to astronomic fame, Chappell Roanâs concert has gained 11 million views in 10 months. From Chappell and her band’s iconic hot pink looks to the singer’s captivating voice, the best thing about this performance is her ability to beautifully translate her explosive songs into compelling ballads, her voice buoyed by the skilful musicianship of her band. Her setlist includes: âCasualâ, âPink Pony Clubâ, âPicture Youâ, â Californiaâ and âRed Wine Supernovaâ.

Mac Miller â 2018
Rising from 2011âs XXL Freshmen Class, Mac Millerâs career was one of many ups and downs, but what always shone through was his ability to distil his experiences into lyrics that ring true for all of us. Joined by close friend and musical collaborator Thundercat, Millerâs songs are only made better by the multi-instrumentalistâs expert Bass playing. Millerâs Tiny Desk Concert is one of the most viewed on NPRâs channel and highlights just how special he was as an artist. His setlist includes: âSmall Worldsâ, âWhatâs the Use? (Feat. Thundercat)â and â2009â.

SWV â 2024
This beloved 3-piece R&B girl group, Sisters With Voices (SWV) rose to fame in the early 90s and have inspired generations of artists with their flawless harmonies. SWVâs Tiny Desk set spotlights their golden vocals alongside the R&B instrumentation that has become a classic of the genre. During the first song the audience even got a moment to shine, singing along to one of the groupâs most classic and recognisable hits. Their setlist includes âIâm So Into Youâ, âRight Here (Human Nature Radio Mix)â, âYouâre the Oneâ, âYouâre always On My Mindâ, âRainâ, âWeakâ, and âAnything (Old Skool Radio Version)â.

Burna Boy â 2019
This Nigerian native has spent his illustrious career providing Afro fusion for every occasion. Burna Boy certainly lives up to the name of his 5th studio album âAfrican Giantâ and the set list is packed with hits from this album. Tiny Deskâs setting allows for simpler production and lets Burna Boyâs striking voice shine through, backed by the rhythm of his band. His setlist includes: âGbonaâ, âWetin Man Go Doâ, âDangoteâ and âYeâ.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – 2019 (Our top pick)
The New Zealand band fronted by the talented Ruban Nielson exist in a wonderful niche between jazz, indie and alternative music. Having seen the band live myself I can vouch for their ability to mix intricate melodies with intoxicating grooves. This Tiny Desk set is a wonderful mix of classic songs from the bandâs catalogue, paired with Nielsonâs unique guitar techniques and his father Chrisâ jazz infused saxophone. Their setlist includes: âFrom the Sunâ, âThought Balluneâ, âLittle Blu Houseâ, âNecessary Evilâ and âMonkiâ.
