A stabbing has been reported to have occurred at Ashby Square in Loughborough town centre. Police were called to the area soon after 7pm yesterday. Multiple police vehicles set up cordons around the scene to prevent pedestrians and limit vehicles passing through.

Police officers were seen scanning the floor with flashlights looking for a dropped weapon outside Phat Buns and near The Griffin. Leicestershire Police gave periodic updates on X advising people to avoid the area between Swan Street and Greenclose Lane.  

It is still unclear how many people were involved in the incident. Leicestershire Police released a statement today saying a man in his forties is in critical condition in hospital.A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and currently remains in police custody.

The statement said the following, “Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 25*178001 or online at www.leics.police.uk”.
