Campus is bustling with the air of election season. It’s time to have your say in who runs your Students’ Union. Mehtaab is running for Academic Experience Executive Officer, a role which concerns itself with the academic side of a student’s life, this can be anything from exams to Artificial Intelligence. Mehtaab is currently studying Media and Communications and is Loughborough Campus Radio’s Station Manager. Mehtaab is from Luton, Bedfordshire. We asked Mehtaab a few questions about her plans for her campaign and if elected.
What are your top priorities as Academic Experience Executive Officer if elected?
My top priorities focus on empowering students to take a more active role in shaping their education. I want to introduce co-designed learning experiences, where students can have a say in how their modules are taught. Additionally, I will push for consistent, high-quality exam feedback across all courses, ensuring students understand their strengths and areas for improvement. Another key priority of mine is implementing personalised academic recovery plans to support students facing long-term health or mental health challenges, ensuring they receive the tailored guidance they need.
What good work would you look to carry on from this year?
I strongly value the role of course reps, as they bridge the gap between students and academic departments. They ensure that the voices of students are heard and help to drive meaningful change within their courses. I plan to build on their impact by increasing their visibility and influence, ensuring they are equipped with the tools to advocate effectively. By strengthening this network, I believe we can create a stronger, more responsive academic community that truly listens to students’ needs.
What experience has prepared you for this role?
My experience working closely with students, both in tutoring and mentoring roles, has deepened my understanding of academic challenges. Supporting international students and those aged 11-18 has given me insight into how education can be tailored to meet diverse needs. While I may not have worked directly with university academic departments, I have first-hand experience of the student perspective. I know what needs to be improved, and I’m passionate about driving those changes to enhance the academic experience for everyone.

Where does your personal drive for this role come from?
Education has given me incredible opportunities, but I’ve also seen how personal and health challenges can prevent others from accessing the same benefits. Some of the people closest to me have had to step away from education due to circumstances beyond their control. That’s why I’m committed to making academic life more accessible and supportive, so no student feels left behind. I want to ensure that everyone at Loughborough can thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
