Streets of Loughborough illuminated once again as the annual fair returned to the town earlier this month.
The fair opened on Wednesday 13th November at 5pm by The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE. This was followed by the presentation of the Loughborough Fair Bell to the mayor and the borough, as Charnwood borough marks 50 years. Once the fair had kicked off, the hundreds of rides and stalls allowed visitors to cheer, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement.
Loughborough fair is a longstanding tradition as it returned for the 803rd year. Charnwood Borough Council has since announced that thousands of visitors came to the fair and over one hundred show people were presenting different attractions, consistent from previous years.
Most of the performers who helped bring the fair to life have been running their show for decades, many of them being family businesses that have been running for generations.
Thriller rides such as Vertigo, and Excitor were popular with Loughborough university students and other young adults, however the family fun classics such as Helter Skelter, Merry-go-round and the Rodeo Bull were enjoyed by all ages.
Even if you were not one for exciting rides, the fair also had games all along the town centre such as the childhood favourite Hook a Duck, to the challenging Basketball, and Dodgems. With the fair offering over fifty rides, games, and attractions, you can guarantee that there was something for everyone.
Also, approximately forty food and drink stalls, ranging from the go-to burgers and chips to the traditional fair sweet treats such as nougat and warm churros, allowed everyone to have a comforting meal or snack to enjoy as the fair continued into the night and the temperatures dropped even more so.
When asking locals about the fair, a student said: “It was my first time going to the Loughborough fair this year and I had the best time! I went multiple times throughout the week with friends and family and I enjoyed every second of it. Memories were truly made here, and I hope to be going back next year.”
No matter whether it was your first time going as a fresher, or it is now a family tradition leading up to Christmas, it can be said for certain that Loughborough Fair not only illuminated the town but also the special moments that were spent here too.
