BUCS BIG WEDNESDAY 22.03.2017

Loughborough students travelled to Bath for the season ending Championship and with one goal in mind BUCS Gold.

Following the successes of the Badminton Women’s 2’s in Trophy Tuesday the night before, the Men’s and Women’s 1st teams swept aside the opposition to claim Loughbrough’s 1st championships of the day. This was followed by a heart-wrenching defeats for the Men’s 1st Fencing team and the Women’s 2nds Football team. The Women’s 1st Hockey team produced a valiant display, but were also to fall short of BUCS glory.

It was thus time for our Women’s basketball 1sts to return Loughborough to winning ways, and in a thriller they took victory in over-time to down rivals Durham. This was followed at the Hockey pitch, where the Men’s 1sts were looking to become back to back champions, and faced a resurgent Nottingham side. In front of a raucous crowd, Loughborough scored the winner in the dying minutes to bring the tally of the day so far to four BUCS Championship wins.

The successes continued back indoors, where the Women’s Netball team continued with their imperious form and became undefeated 2017 BUCS Champions. The finale saw the DDAY rivalry continued, with the Men’s Basketball 1sts taking on Durham as they looked to defend their BUCS Championship success from last year. In another enthralling encounter our Men’s 1sts stood strong to bring home Loughborough’s 7th Championship of the day.
