It’s that horrible time of the year again where the temperatures outside drop below zero and the temperatures inside are turned up. Unfortunately, this has consequences on our skin and hair, so here are 3 tips that are sure to help you survive the winter season.

1. Brighten up your Face

Central heating plays havoc with our face, drying up our skin and leaving a build-up of skin cells. In addition, the lack of sun leaves us with a dull complexion. First things first, once you’ve removed your makeup, make sure you use a good cleanser which isn’t too harsh and doesn’t strip your face of its natural oils. I like to use Soap & Glory’s Face Soap and Clarity 3-in-1 Daily Detox Vitamin C Facial Wash, or Clinique’s Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser.  Next is to remember to moisturise at night, this is when your skin can recover from those wintry days so it is important to use the right product, any plain moisturiser just won’t do. I recommend Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream, or on the more budget friendly Botanics All Bright Hydrating Night Cream.

2. Look after those Lips

Unlike your skin, your lips don’t produce any natural oils, therefore it is entirely down to you to protect them from these harsh elements. Chapped, dry and cracked lips are a common problem during the winter season, but there are a few easy steps to prevent this from happening. Step 1 is to protect your lips, during the day, by wearing a lip balm such as Vaseline Lip Therapy Stick Original-SPF 15, or The Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care Stick. Both are ideal as they have SPF 15 in them which protects from harsh rays, as well as creating a barrier to protect from the cold. At night, just before I go to bed, I like to apply a lip butter, this works just like the night cream, and helps to restore your lips moisture whilst you sleep. My favourite is Nivea Lip Butter Original.

3. Take care of your Hair

Finally, it’s clear to see that the wind and freezing temperatures do not bode well with our hair. Choosing a Shampoo and Conditioner which locks in moister is essential to stop your hair from becoming weak and brittle. Aussie’s Miracle Moist does the job brilliantly, as well as being relatively cheap. Next step is to use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week, which will help restore your hair and keep it extra moisturised. It’s ok to splash out a bit as you want something that really works, my absolute favourite product is Kérastase Resistance Masque Force Architecte. You leave this product in your hair for about 10 minutes and then rinse out, and I promise you will see a major difference in your hair.
