Label introduce you to Loughborough’s Halls of Residence

Label have put together a hall profile/ article for every hall in Loughborough. We’ve included the basics, what size the hall is, how big their committee is and more. However, more importantly, we’ve added in quotes, gathered from Hall Committee members, to help show you as freshers, what the hall really has to offer. Click here to see more Hall Profiles!

John Phillips, also referred to as JP, is home to 298 predominantly postgraduate students, with most being Masters students who typically only study a year.

This self catered hall allows students from different backgrounds and all walks of life to engage and interact with people who you may otherwise never get the chance to meet.

Ahmed Al-Sairafi, John Phillips’ Hall Chair says:

“John Phillips is the most diverse hall on campus, which gives the residents an opportunity to learn more about different cultures from the Asian region all the way to Latin America and everything in between. One of the unique events we had this year is the John Phillips Summer Olympics where the four blocks in the hall compete in a friendly rivalry across a number of sporting events such as beach volleyball, dodgeball, and football”.

With a strong 16-member committee on hand, JP residents are guaranteed a lively, diverse and calm (when necessary) environment during their studies. JP is usually quiet and peaceful during exam periods, but also lively with many events and socials throughout the term. The hall tends to act as a large group of friends instead of dividing up into smaller social circles, which makes for a more enjoyable experience.

Despite being one of the more mature halls, John Phillips is still heavily involved with Action, RAG and IMS placing 13th as a hall with the women individually placing 12th which is rather impressive considering they all have Masters studies on their minds!

To add to this, JP’s ex- Exec Hall Buddy is none other than the person to give Loughborough their very first NUS Award for Education, Amy Ward (VP Education 2014-2015). Surely with hall buddies like Amy Ward, JP residents are not only destined for success but also a good time on the way.
