Fitness is one of the most important factors for an all-round happy and healthy lifestyle. It has so many benefits from increasing energy and productivity, to relieving stress and boosting confidence about the way we look and feel. These are just a few examples from an endless list of why putting on those trainers can have such a positive impact on our lives.

Whether you are starting at square one or not, here are the top 3 ways to get fit and stay fit at University without needing to join an AU team, or burn a hole in your pocket.

  1. Loughborough MyLifestyle

MyLifestyle has been specifically designed for students who want to exercise, keep fit and play sport for fun in an environment free from competition, expectation and commitment. It offers a huge range of opportunities like spinning classes, back to netball or GRIT strength classes, to help you get physically active, healthy and play sport. Activities are free for University gym members and either free or £1.50 for students without gym membership. Further details and timetables are on the Loughborough MyLifestyle website.

  1. Nike Training Club

Nike Training Club is easily the best untapped resource for any female student looking to get fit without digging deep into your pockets. In fact, it’s totally free! The club is held every Thursday in New Victoria Hall from 8.30-9.30pm, this high energy fun hour targets many fitness areas through cardio workouts and muscle strength. There’s a great camaraderie every week among the girls and a real opportunity to improve on fitness each session, but at your own pace. 1. Recreational Running Society

Yes that’s right, running. The oldest and most successful trick in the book for improving fitness. However there is no need to be alarmed as Loughborough’s running society is friendly, welcoming and caters for all levels. Beginner’s sessions are on a Monday and are short runs with coaching along the way. For more experienced runners there are longer sessions throughout the week with the opportunity to find some great new trails in the area. The society is also prone to a social drink after a run, so prepare for fitness and fun! More details can be found of the Societies page of the Union website.
