An instant music ban has been imposed against the proprietor (Infinite Leisure Ltd) of Mansion, Loughborough, after a Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) inspection revealed that the club had been playing some music without an appropriate licence. PPL collects and distributes money on behalf of record companies and performers. During the inspection the club is alleged to have played Scouting For Girls’ She’s So Lovely, Taio Cruz’s Troublemaker and Bastille’s Pompeii, all artists covered by PPL licences.

In addition to the ban, the club has been ordered to pay £1579 in legal costs to pay within the next two weeks. PPL’s counsel Ashton Chantrielle is reported to have said that the company’s solicitors had sent Mansion multiple letters requesting that they update their licence, informing the company of the extent of PPL’s musical repertoire, and the legal ramifications of not having an up to date licence, however when they failed to do so legal action was taken, and a music ban was imposed. Failure to comply to the ban’s terms would mean a £10,000 fine for the club proprietors and up to six months in prison for any persons responsible.

Mansion updated their facebook page stating that, ‘Mansion will be open as normal this evening – and every other night we normally open – with Music!’ suggesting that their licencing problems have been resolved and that we won’t all be standing in silence at mansion this week.
