The month of April saw a nine-award haul for Loughborough Students' Media from the National Student Television Awards (NASTAs) and the first ever Student Publication Association Awards, held at the University of Southampton.

Label Magazine brought home one of the first Student Publication Association Awards, being highly commended for Best Live/Commentary Piece for our Olympic Live Updates, engineered by Online Content Editor George Mostyn. The event was ground-breaking for student publications nationwide after months of planning by the SPA committee, and we here at Label are proud to have been amongst the winners.

Upon hearing the news, Label Editor Grace Meritt stated: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Label to win an award at the first ever student publication awards, an event of which has been long overdue so massive credit also to Southampton University for taking the first steps in organising it. This award just adds to what has been a great year for Label both in print and online, interacting with, and involving more students than ever before.’

LSUTV were thoroughly rewarded for their hard work over the past year, taking home four ‘best’ awards. The station, lead this year by Connor Pearce, also took home four ‘highly commended’ awards for Best Comedy with ‘The End is Nigh’, Best Music Show for Soundclash, and the Executive Elections coverage took home ‘highly commended’ for Best Technical and Best Open categories.

The highlight of the evening, however, came in the form of the awards for Best On Screen Personality, with Bryony Hopkins swooping Best Female and Joe Lynskey taking home the Best On Screen Male award. Despite missing out on Best Comedy, ‘The End is Nigh’ were later awarded with Best Writing, and the Tough Guy film took home Best Documentary.

Bryony Hopkins told Label, “It's just an amazing achievement for LSUTV and a credit to all the hard work from all the volunteers, I'm so proud! The whole evening was incredible and to be honest, I still haven't got over the shock!”

In response to a highly successful month, Head of Media Natasha Cox has had this to say: “The volunteers have been working extremely hard all year, taking on a range of complex and ambitious projects across the sections and winning these awards is simply the icing on the cake. It demonstrates to the world outside of LS Media that we produce some top class output and I am so proud of every single volunteer that has got involved this year!”

LS Media now looks ahead to the upcoming final of Lufbra Soundclash hosted by LCR on May 2nd, Label’s 15th anniversary issue set for release on May 10th, and the Media Awards, which will celebrate more successes from this year in media.
