SS13 fashion trends reintroduces the iconic 60’s look alongside the return of bold stripes, however two of the main fashion trends evident on the catwalk this season are monochrome and neon! Don't forget to check out the gallery at the bottom of the page to see our prime examples of what's in this season.

Although these two trends may initially seem to clash with one another, many fashion bloggers and top designers have merged the two trends together, blending them effortlessly into the SS13 catwalks. I personally love both of these trends and believe there is more than one way to wear them, so why not blend them?

The monochrome trend revolves around clean, angular lines and the inclusion of a little geometry with the inclusion of stripes, circles and spots to emphasis the already bold style of this season. Monochrome was one of the most popular looks on the catwalk this spring/summer, and Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs both embraced the emergence of the monochrome style. The pencil skirt and midi dress is predominantly associated with this season’s trend and many of our favourite high street shops are mirroring the SS13 catwalk look.

The black and white statement extends beyond the clothing worn on the catwalk as celebrities including Vanessa Hudgen’s and the gorgeous Cara Delevingne have shared pictures of their polka dot and striped monochrome nail art. Still, the monochrome trend is one which is easily paired with other SS13 looks and the clash between monochrome and bright neon colours is one which has taken the high street fashion scene by storm.

Although it isn’t quite warm enough to introduce bright shorts and bold t-shirts into our wardrobes just yet, the neon trend incorporates dip dye patterns which will be perfect for the upcoming festival and holiday season this summer.

Bright coloured jeans are of course the perfect wardrobe staple for this spring/summer trend and are already available in a vast range of colours in many high street shops, including my personal favourite: Topshop. However, my favourite neon item this SS is Ted Baker’s neon pink oversized handbag, however with my student budget my bank account encouraged me to search the high street for an alternative, which I found in the form of a coral clutch from Accessorize!

The monochrome trend is both sophisticated and chic; however the introduction of neon and therefore the merging of two of this season’s most popular looks is both bold and striking! The extremely popular website, and my wardrobe lifesaver: ASOS, have been promoting the merging of these two appearances, with a particular focus on the bold neon fashion.

The monochrome trend has assisted the reintroduction of sixties fashion back into 2013, there are so many black and white summer dresses on the high street, which when paired with a bold and bright blazer, bag or even some neon accessories creates an on trend and current look, so you can get the look at a fraction of the price!
