Loughborough University have announced Professor Robert Allison as the new vice chancellor who will replace Professor Shirley Pearce later this year.

Currently currently Professor of Geography and a Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Sussex, with specific responsibility for strategic planning, research, enterprise and innovation, he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor between 2010 and 2011.

Professor Allison said of his appointment: “It is an honour and privilege to be joining Loughborough University as its next Vice Chancellor.

“I look forward to meeting and working with the many talented staff, able students and members of the wider Loughborough community.

“It is my intention to build upon the outstanding success of Professor Shirley Pearce, to ensure that the high international standing of the University is maintained through its excellent research, teaching and learning and links with business and the community."

Sir Peter Bonfield, Chair of University Council, commented on the appointment:

"Professor Allison possesses a wealth of skills and experience that are well matched to Loughborough’s strengths. I am confident that under his leadership, the University will enhance still further its position as a leading research-led university."

Professor Shirley Pearce will step down as Vice Chancellor at the end of July and it has been agreed that Professor Chris Linton will be Acting Vice Chancellor for the interim period until Professor Allison arrives in September.
