The first of this year’s careers fairs took place on Tuesday October 25 with around 5000 Loughborough students flocking to the David Wallace Sports Hall on campus to see what was on offer. The Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair saw 140 exhibitors attend to talk to students and encourage them to apply for competitive schemes and roles at their companies.
The new venue appeared to be a success among attendees who commented on its ease with just one large exhibitor area and an outside area which saw a barbeque and Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin cars for students to sit in and look at.
One finalist in the Business School said, “I have never been to a careers fair before but I’ve picked up some great tips about how to apply and what they look for as well as getting some better idea of what I want to do.”
There was a wide range of vocations covered from retail to engineering design. One of the fair organisers, Louise Donaghy, commented that “I could not be more pleased with how the Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair went this year, this was the largest ‘one day’ university careers fair in the UK. Such a huge number of top employers from a wide variety of sectors attended which is a real testament to how sought after and employable Loughborough students and graduates really are.”
She continued, “Exhibitors were so impressed by the high volume of quality students attending throughout the day that many reported that this was the best careers fair they had ever attended. You really can’t ask for more than that.”
There will be two further large fairs this academic year, as well the Springboard fair which is aimed more specifically at students of English and the Arts.
