Financial Economics Professor, Alistair Milne has been appointed as a specialist advisor to Parliament on proposed new legislation.

The Financial Services Bill, which has the potential to transform financial regulation in the UK, will break up the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and move responsibility for prudent supervision to the Bank of England.

Professor Milne, who has Masters Degrees from Cambridge and LSE and a PhD from LSE, joined the School of Business and Economics in July 2011, has been appointed as one of two specialists to the Joint Committee responsible for scrutinising the Bill.

In the past, Milne has experience with both the FSA, having acted as a consultant, and the Bank of England having also held a position there.

The report is expected to be published by the end of 2011.
